The failure rarely starts on go-live day
When an electronic patient record programme falters, the root cause is almost never a single technical fault. It is the accumulation of small, unmanaged risks — incomplete data validation, rushed training, and workflows that were designed in a meeting room rather than on the ward.
Successful go-lives treat the weeks before launch as the real project. Command centre rehearsals, cutover dress runs and clearly owned escalation paths turn a high-stress event into a routine one.
Where to focus first
Prioritise the clinical journeys that touch the most patients: admissions, medications and discharge. Stabilise those, and the rest of the system has room to settle.
